What is this game?

A rhythm game based on Deltarune/Undertale! Inspired by Final Fantasy Theatrhythm.

All song charts were created by https://www.youtube.com/@lachadnecharts, these were originally created for Clone Hero so some charts work ok, others do not πŸ˜…

We have over 230 songs from Undertale, and Deltarune Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5ΜΆΜƒΜƒΜœ

(There are two secrets... somewhere πŸ• + βš™οΈ)


How to play?

This game uses similar mechanics the Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, so when a note is about to hit the trigger area you can press any of the actions keys to hit the note regardless which row it's on (neat!).

Some longer notes will need to be held until the are finished to score a point, so let go at the very end! If there are multiple notes at once you can press multiple action keys to hit them all at once.

Not all song charts have been tested so some may be overly difficult or impossible, but a quite a few of them seem to be ok.

Custom Songs/Level Editor (Desktop Only)

You can load you own music into the game by making a new folder in /songs for example songs/chapter_69 and any sub folders inside that will contain your songs, for example: 

songs/chapter_0/asgore/

                                              - song.ogg (must be .ogg! .mp3 and .opus wont work)
                                              - notes.chart 
                                              - background.png (optional)

Any charts made for Clone Hero should be compatible, this is a good website to find them: https://www.enchor.us/

You can also used the games built in chart editor to create/edit your own chart file!


The game also support some custom properties in the "notes.chart" file if you would like to change the background colors.

Troubleshooting

Q: Help the game runs bad!
A: If you have performance issue please try downloading the desktop version, it runs more smoothly!

Q: I downloaded a Clone Hero song but it's not working in the game?
A: Please make sure that when you download a song that the music is in ".ogg" format, ".opus" and ".mp3" will not work. You can use online converters to convert the music to ".ogg"

Since the game is not signed Apple will think it's untrusted (I am not paying Apple $100 per year πŸ˜‚), so to start the game you'll need to try opening it once and click "Done"



Then open "System Settings"go to "Privacy and Security", scroll down to the bottom and click "Open Anyway". You should only need to do this once!

Took a second to realise that the note position doesn't matter and you can hit any note with any button, but once I got the hang of that this is really fun! I'm used to DDR style rhythm-games, so this is a super refreshing change of pace :)

Also just noticed the tutorial prompt literally tells you note position doesn't matter. I am a fool xD

Thanks! It's the same in Final Fantasy Theatrythem, where any button triggers any note.

I may have to check out Theatrythem after this then, that sounds like a great time :)

Hey, I don't know anything about how this works but, I have a suggestion, since my webpage keeps crashing due to it taking up too much memory. this also causes it to lag a lot when playing. Is it possible for you to make it so that instead of loading all of the music, you can select a chapter from the game, and it loads the music only from that chapter, and none others? I'm not sure if that would do anything, but if it does, that might help a ton. Thanks!

Hey! If you are having issues with the web version I'd recommend downloading the desktop version for Windows Mac or Linux.

If you have a weaker computer it will run a lot better on desktop rather than web.

In what fairy tail world do you live in where shit computers run better?

I think you misunderstood what I said. 

What I am saying is that if you have a weak computer then it's better to use desktop version of the game, as it will run better than the web version.

Generally Godot games run worse on web.

Idk if this is a bug or not but if you keep on holding a long note when it already ended itll count as a miss

if it isnt a bug then PLEASE change this it feels so unfair to hold just a little bit too long just to get a miss

Hey! It's intentional but I agree the timing could be more generous.  I'll tweak this in the next update. 

Also if you are curious you can press "F3" twice during a song and it'll show some debug info including the note hit boxes.

I have just released a small update that makes the end notes easier, if you let go too soon or too late it's a bit more generous now. 

Let me know if that feels ok!

thats way better but idk i feel like it still isnt a good idea to get a miss for holding the note for too much time

maybe have a toggle for it in the options or something?

Sure! I'll add a separate volume sliders in the settings so people can change SFX and the Music separately.

Do you mean that the lines on the held notes are too hard to see? Perhaps if I add a outline around the notes/lines that will help visibility, I'm open to suggestions. 

I'll get around to adding these in at some point tomorrow.

Just released a small update, added the ability to adjust the sfx separate from the volume, also added the ability to disable the menu drone sound effect

Great game, just has a few issues

  • The accuracy system feels a bit reduntant since there's no score or highscores, so you're not really incentivized to hit the notes accuratelly.
  • Because all the notes are the same color, it's really hard to distinguish the pattern when there's multiple notes together. Just making the notes from each line a different color should help a lot.
  • Custom song support is excellent, but the lack of an autoplay makes it very tedious to create custom charts.
  • This may be a nitpick, but I don't like that you can't see the difficulty of a chart.

Aside from that I had a lot of fun with this game. I hope it continues to get updates in the future.

Difficulty will be added at a later date, I need to go through each song and figure out how hard they are.

Also, I forgot to mention, but I'm having some issues with the chart editor. For some reason it's not loading the ogg file and it's stuck with a blank chart. Am I doing something wrong?

No worries! I actually just pushed another update (added to the existing 1.2 change log). 

There was an issue where if you tried to load a song that didn't already have a notes.chart file that you would get a blank screen, which means you could edit songs but not easily create new ones. 

This should be fixed now, I only have access to a Mac atm so have not been able to test this fix on Windows yet, but hopefully it fixes it there too.
